Fort Worth- Friday the 13th brought bad luck to the members of Greater Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Early Friday morning, the community church caught fire.

“I got a phone call about five or so this morning, and was told by one of the members across the street that the church was on fire,” Pastor Kenneth Sayles said.

The fire destroyed everything from the roof, to the pews; almost nothing escaped the path of the flames. Investigators are still trying to figure out what sparked the damaging blaze.

Pastor Sayles has been preaching at the church for 55-years. He said it’s going to take more than a fire for him to cancel his sermon.

“We plan to set chairs and tables here in our parking lot, weather permissible, and do as we do every Sunday morning.”

“Whatever negativity we are feeling, we will come to church to get the medicine we need so we can make it through the week,” church member Maureen Davis added.

The parishioners of Greater Canaan Missionary have faith that this church will rise from the ashes.
