Dr. Burg said that people with bad backs don’t have to leave in pain anymore. Technology now offers many options–including those of the small variety.
“These days we’re focusing on minimally invasive spine procedures,” Dr. Burg said. “This is to avoid various pitfalls that are associated with a large operation. Patients are able to get back to their lives much quicker.”
And there is more good news. Dr. Burg said that in many cases no surgery is needed. Treatment options include physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medicines and even acupuncture.
“Pain procedures are also valuable for mapping a patient’s pain and determining precisely where the pain is coming from,” Dr. Burg said. “Treatments are determined based on the results of these tests.”
Dr. Burg said patients need to be aware of all of their options and for that they’ll an expert. Dr. Burg suggests finding a surgeon who is fellowship trained and certified.

“This sort of institution is not afraid to jump on board with the new technology that is required for these treatments,” Dr. Burg said.
